I’m a theater person.

I’ve been having a great time at my musical theatre camp these past couple days. The first day, the director of the camp gave a little (hour-long) introduction to the camp and welcomed all us new people.
“We’re a very fun, huggy group,” she said. Now these are my kind of people, I thought. She continued.
“We’re all weird here. And I’m sure that you guys are too. Do you know why? It’s because we are theater people. That’s what we’ve realized. All you out there who have always been a little out-of-sync with the rest of the world – it’s because you’re a theater person.”
I think that phrase was the most encouraging thing I’ve ever had someone say to me. Because I always have been rather out-of-sync with everyone else. I have a sense of humor that’s a little off sometimes. I say the wrong things at the wrong times. I get stares and weird looks. Mean comments have been made about me.
But I guess I’m just a theater person,
and they aren’t.

  • i like the theater people comment:) I agree with it for myself sometimes too- but more for dancers. There’s a way that all artists have funny little quirks that make them great performers. Any chance you could email me the pics of us at the feis?

I guess that comment does apply to all performers. :D
